We’re Engaged!

This Young Couple Got Engaged In Their Old Home

Young Couple Old Home

Last Friday, began like any normal day for Jimmy and me; however, little did I know a big SURPRISE was coming my way. A friend of mine came to pick me up and head over to Hobby Lobby to help pick out curtain rods and etc. As the night came to an end I was heading back home to what I would believe to be an empty house, as Jimmy works nights.

I open the door and I see a shadow moving, fearful that someone may have just broken into my house, a voice quickly said it’s me, Jimmy! He grabs my hands to pull me back into the house and as we entered the living room I see a hundred tea lights lit, rose peddles on the floor, champagne bottle on ice, and my favorite chocolate covered strawberries!

After the proposal and I calmed down, I realized Jimmy had two GoPro cameras running to capture this moment. We had discussed getting married for so long and I knew it would happen soon, but did not know it was going to happen that night. I’m still in awe of him and the work he put into that night, into building our first home, and he puts into our relationship.

This house was our first real venture together and for us to get engaged in our living room was the perfect way to take on our next venture!

So you know what’s next right? Planning the wedding and this Bride and Groom will be showing you all our DIY wedding projects.

Our next blog post we’ll be sharing how Jimmy made the I Love You Sign for the proposal!

DIY Fall Basket

DIY Fall Basket:

Dollar Store Outdoor Fall Decor

Fall Decor

Fall is in full swing here in NY and we have just put away all of our Halloween decorations from our Haunted Cemetery. If you haven’t seen it, you need to check out our post here. Well, anyways back to the first Fall DIY post and what makes it great for the most part it’s either free or from the Dollar Store!

img_8064 img_8067img_8066  img_8072fall decorFall Decor

Difficulty Level: Easy

  • Large flower pot/large bucket (decorative or Rustic, designers choice) we already had this on hand, so it was free.
  • Leaves (fallen off the tree)
  • Leave ropes (dollar store)
  • Sunflowers or any fall flowers of your choosing
  • Christmas rope lights (we had this already, no need to be fancy with the type of lights)

  • First it all pends on how much leave ropes you were able to get your hands on. Personally, we only bought two for this project. The #protip to this is stuff the large bucket/flower pot with leaves from the floor to fluff it up. It “A”saves money and it gives it that authenticity to this fall decor.
  • Next in a circular set-up place, your leave ropes and then your lights and mix them all up.
  • Lastly, add all your flowers, pumpkins and etc.
  • And that is it our friends, light that baby up and enjoy your inexpensive fall decor.

Our First Haunted Halloween Cemetery

“Lost Souls Cemetery”

Our first Haunted Cemetery was a success! We had tons of kids and adults visiting and we enjoyed every minute of it. Granted we had been planning this since August and finally it all worked out. Check out pictures from our day and we layout each prop that was made by us.

Majority of the figures in our cemetery were either made or modify because they were broken (we picked them up from Craigslist) and they were very inexpensive. Let us know which figures you would want more of a description on how we made them.

Tomb Fog Machine ( Tomb was made out of styrofoam box, we hand carved it and placed a fog machine inside, also used water bottles that were frozen in substitution for dry ice to keep the fog smoke down to the ground) Top piece however was store bought, we glued it to the top

Pallet Picket Fence: We used pallets that we found off of Craigslist for free. First we disassembled the pallets, drew out the size and shape of the fence we wanted. Next we took a wood finish stain to make it look weathered and vola! (Granted their are more steps in-between, but again let us know which decoration you would want more details on)

Boarded Up Cardboard Windows: Literally disassembled a few boxes and then cut strips of card board pieces and crissed crossed them up. Once the layout was done we took black spray paint and blacked out the “window. As for  the “wood” pieces they were a mixture of black spray paint and white paint. #Protip use an old/dry brush and dip it in the paint, allow it to run across the cardboard piece in a streak like way. Remember it’s halloween, the idea is it’s not supposed to look perfect.

DIY Date Night Jar

DIY Date Night Jar

Ideas for you and your bae !

Okay, so in today’s blog Jimmy and I want to talk about date night ideas. Let’s discuss how to take the “I don’t know, what do you want to do” phrase out of your vocabulary. How may you ask? Well, by creating your very own Date Night Jar filled with ideas and endless memories. Because, the amount of time we waste sitting on the couch going back and forth saying I don’t know what do you want to do, we could have been somewhere doing something and making memories with our loved one. Are we right? Or are we right?

So after about four years of being together if we could have a dollar for every time we each asked, “So what do you want to do tonight/Day?” We’d have a lot of money for an expensive date that we probably wouldn’t know still what to do 🙂DIY Date Jar

What you need for your DIY Date Night Jar:

  • Jar of any type (we used plastic container, chocolate raise-nets to be exact haha)
  • Chalkboard label
  • Chalk
  • Paper

#protips: You can have pre-cut construction paper color organized by expensiveness or broken out by his & her ideas (pink or blue)

How to fill your lovely new DIY Date Night Jar:

Before you start jotting down your ideas for date night, place the chalkboard label sticker onto your jar and write “Date Night Ideas Jar”.

Now, our idea was every time we had an idea we would write down where, and any info we thought might help like a phone number or website. This way the information would be there and all the thinking is taken care of for that next date night.

Be as creative with your date night jar and set-up the jar, however, you two feel will be helpful.

Jimmy and I are so busy that by the time the weekend comes as are most of you, you just don’t want to think lol. So this is such a life saver for us.

Date Night Ideas:

  • Explore your own backyard- what we mean by this is last weekend Jimmy and I went to see a local landmark that neither one of us have seen since we were both kids. We explored and saw other parts of our town. Take advantage of this time, because you live there and never realize that one day it could be gone. We’re in NY as some of you may or may not know and every day we would expect to see the Twin Towers there and one day they’re not. The best motto we try to live by do not put off till tomorrow, with what you can do today.

Staten Island Conference house-staten-island

  • Do something that your partner enjoys and do it together– Get specific, like do they like to play baseball? Then hit up the batting cages
  • Brunch at Home– Us New Yorkers love a good Brunch, so no matter where you’re from go and Set-up your own brunch together. Make your favorite brunch food and grab the champagne and pop that bottle! Make mimosas and or have a Bloody Mary Station.
  • Do something NEW– Get out of your comfort zone and try something that neither of you has done and learn together.
  • Do a DIY project together– We spent our Vday making a floor mirror together
  • Go out to dinner– Okay, now we run into well what restaurant do you want to go to and that leads to what type of food you in the mood for, etc. You see where we are going here, right? Next time you guys are out and see a restaurant or bar take out your phone and right it down! This way you can pull it up the next time your bae says, those lovely words “I don’t know where do you want to eat!”
  • Add some free ideas too– bike riding, google local fairs and events on Facebook that are in the area.

The best thing about the Date Night Jar, you can jot down the idea as it comes to you. No stress, no worries, and all you have to do is show-up!

Comment below and share with us your date night ideas!

DIY Carpet and Mattress Refresher

DIY Carpet and Mattress Refresher

A must-have all natural spring cleaning recipe!

DIY carpet freshening powder that only uses two ingredients!

DIY Carpet Freshener Powder

Want to save money on carpet freshener? Did you know that carpet powder you can get at the store is full of toxic chemicals? If we sparked your interest, then keep reading to find out how to make your own economically affordable and chemical free carpet freshener.

These days Jimmy and I have no carpets in our home, besides for our accent and area rugs. In our old apartment we loved to use carpet freshener when we vacuumed our rooms. However, I realized, that it’s actually really bad for you….the ones in the stores have many chemicals and the products can be pricey.

We started to make our own DIY Carpet and MattressRefresher. It works even better than the store bought options…..and ends up being more economical, too. {It also SMELLS amazing! Much better than the fake smells that carpet powder usually comes in!}

An added bonus, it’s also great to refresh the mattresses. Here is a simple method of how to  clean your mattress to refresh it.  We spend over a third of our lives in bed getting that precious beauty sleep so it is important that what we sleep (breath into) needs to be clean. We wash our sheets weekly to remove dust mites, and dead skin cells, therefore, we should clean a mattress at least once a month. Yuck we Know!

Here’s the DIY Carpet and Mattress Refresher simple recipe:

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice – we use lavender
  • Kitchen Sifter: Mix well with baking soda and essential oil once blended,  then sprinkle over carpets and allow to sit a few minutes before vacuuming or Sprinkle all over bare mattresses and allow to sit at least 1 hour and then vacuum
  • An empty spice container- these are perfect for when you sprinkle over your carpets
  • Vacum

Sprinkle the carpet powder onto the desired areas of your carpet.  Let it sit for at least 30 minutes on the carpet and one hour on the mattress  then vacuum it up. This will get rid of dust mites and freshens up the mattress so it can work its magic and absorb all of the stinky odors.  It’s that easy! This carpet powder can be used as often as necessary.  It should not bleach your carpet or stain it, but if that is a concern, perform a patch test in a small inconspicuous area first.  Because this powder is non-toxic and chemical-free, it is safe for children and pets to be around.

15 Awesome Summer Hacks

15 Awesome Summer Hacks That Will Take Your Summer To The Next Level

Who is excited for Summer? As the first day of Summer has officially begun, we thought what better way to kick this season off than with some good old fashion SUMMER HACKS. We gathered some awesome  tips, tricks and hacks that will surely help you have a great Summer.

Grill Food Before Anyone Arrives

At some point in a BBQ, guests begin to hover around the grill, salivating, with beers in hand. This is when the pressure mounts, and you rush to get all the burgers or steaks done. Why not just start earlier? Grill meats up to four hours before you want to serve them to just under where you want them. So if guests all want their burgers medium, take the patties off the grill at medium rare, let them sit at room temperature, and toss them on to finish them off when everyone is ready to eat.

Make The Grill Stick-Proof.

To make sure your food doesn’t stick to your grill, rub half an onion on the grates.

The Only Grill Cleaning Hack You’ll Ever Need
Everything starts with a clean grill, and there’s nothing more frustrating than realizing you forgot to clean the grill with a yard full of hungry guests. Next time, use this one simple hack to clean your grill as soon as food comes off, and you’ll never face dirty grates again. While the grill is still warm, ball up some aluminum foil (chances are you have some leftover from cooking), and use a pair of tongs to vigorously scrub the grates clean. Instant clean – no special equipment required.

Stock Up on Mason Jars
Mason jars are riding a (seemingly endless) wave of popularity and utility, thanks to an abundance of accessories that make them useful for just about everything. They make for inexpensive yet sturdy drinking glasses, condiment dispensers, utensil holders, candle holders, and more. They’re especially ideal for corralling grill tools and utensils around the grill, as plastic would easily melt

Fix Flip Flops:

Use bread tags to keep flip flops from coming apart Freeze ice cubes of aloe vera and when you have a sun burn you can use a frozen ice cube to rub the coolness on your burn Keep you hands clean while eating a Popsicle, use a cupcake lining Turn old Jeans into awesome new pair of shorts.

Order Up:

Use your ketchup or BBQ squeeze bottle to write on the bottom of the buns. If someone wants a well done burger, write well on the bottom and so on and so forth so the griller knows how many of each they need to cook, then match it with the correct bun (here is a pic of the squeeze bottle too).

BBQ hacks you should use next time you have a barbeque_zpsziwqsceq

Condiment organizer:

Use the muffin tin as an awesome condiment organizer for those perfect summer bbq get together.

Sticky Finger Free:

Use cupcake lining as a way to protect those fingers of your from getting all sticky.

Create a Beach Safe:

You can make a handy little safe with an empty lotion bottle and keep your possessions safe while you are out and about at the pool or the beach. Just empty the bottle and wash it out well. Use bottles that have removable tops (most are large enough for you to keep cash, keys, and even a cell phone in them). Then just throw your stuff in your lotion bottle and stick it in your bag. Not only will it help to hide away your valuables, it makes it much easier to keep up with your cash and keys when they are neatly stored together.

Keep Your Steering Wheel Cool:

Actually, this little trick won’t really keep the steering wheel cool but it will help you to prevent burning your hands when your car has been in the hot sun. Turn the steering wheel as far as you can when you get out of the car. That way, when you get back in, you’re not needing to actually touch the part of the steering wheel that has been in the blazing sunlight. You can just turn it back quickly (to avoid initial burning) and then drive on without worries of singeing off your fingerprints.

How To Keep Sand Off Your Blanket:

Easily Remove Sand:

Baby powder is quite possibly the best thing that ever happened to adults. Honestly. If you are heading to the beach, take along some baby powder. Believe it or not, if you sprinkle your sand covered feet with baby powder when you’re ready to leave, the sand will literally fall off. Instead of tracking up your car and worse, your carpeting at home, with sand, you can just remove it easily with the baby powder. It works and it works really well. Plus, baby powder is much cheaper than shampooing carpets to get that sand out.
